Going to Teach in Asia

By admin | November 7, 2009

Have you ever considered teaching in asia?  I have, but I tell you what’s worrying me: the cultural differences.  For one, I am six feet tall.  The idea of being the tallest person for miles and miles around rather worries me, especially since I’ve been in this situation before in Ecuador and the little comments on my appearance grew tiresome.  Next, the views on relationships in Asia are often different from what I’m used to.  Many countries are more conservative than America, meaning that men and women rarely mix as friends, and thus dating takes on a whole new, more serious meaning.  Finally, there is the issue of money.  Some countries (like Japan) pay their teachers VERY well, but they are so expensive to begin with, I fear that money would evaporate rapidly.  Other countries (like Thailand) pay poorly, even though they are cheap.  So what’s a girl to do?  I suppose I will research and apply for jobs, and if I’m accepted, I’ll decide then.
