My Computer Keeps Freezing

I finally got a computer. It is not a brand-new computer. I got it from a friend for $200. It worked okay for about a week, and then all of a sudden, it keeps freezing up on me. Since I have no experience fixing computers, I have no idea what to do. What I did notice is that if I have more than for windows open at a time, it seems to happen to me more often. I am really worried because I want to be able to keep using the computer. I am afraid that it is going to permanently freeze up on me.
