The Insurance Maze
By admin | September 29, 2011
I really wish there was an easy way to navigate the insurance maze. The terms that they use often don’t mean what any normal person might expect them to mean.
The term out of pocket maximum is one example. Did you know that copays don’t count towards this maximum? Do they think that the $100 I pay towards a visit to the emergency room doesn’t come out of my pocket?
Another thing that I would like to find is a list of the companies to avoid. I mean, wouldn’t it be nice to know which the worst auto insurance companies were so that you could avoid them?
My brother got stuck with a bad policy. It really wasn’t the insurance company’s fault, truth be told. It was a rogue agent who my brother had found from a car insurance calculator he found online.
The agent actually changed the writing on the policy to make it look like he bought more coverage than he did. The agent bought a cheap policy for my brother and pocketed the difference my brother paid.
I can’t believe that he did that. He didn’t get away for it for long. He no longer sells Pine Bluff AR auto insurance. He’s actually in prison.
My brother actually never got hurt by the scam, although he was pretty angry with the agent anyway. He could have had a major accident and would only have had the state minimum coverage. He paid for over ten times the minimum.
Like I said, I wish there was an easy way to figure all this out. Some of it is frankly over the heads of the average person. Much of the rest of it is hard to understand and many of us don’t have the time to figure it all out.
