Debt Consolidation Non Bank Loans

I applied for a Debt consolidation loan several weeks ago, and I was not approved. I was under the impression the only place to obtain a debt consolidation loan was with a bank. Therefore, I applied at my local bank for $5000 loan, and I was turned down in 24 hours. I could not believe this bank refused to give me a loan. I was about to give up. However, I read an article that states banks are not the only organization that offers these types of loans, and the article listed a few businesses that offered debt consolidation programs. Today, I have a loan that I can afford.
