The Importance of Doing a Business Name Search

There are a number of different steps that need to be taken before forming your business. One of these steps is performing a business name search. This involves filing paperwork with the Secretary of State in your state so that you can make sure the name (or names) that you are considering are available before going any further in the process of forming a business.
Why do you need to do a business name search? Well, if you fill out the paperwork to incorporate your business without doing this and you happen to choose a name that has already been selected by another corporation your filing will be rejected. You will need to do everything over again and resubmit it using a new name (hopefully one that you have made sure isn’t already taken).
There are a number of companies on the internet that will fill out all the paperwork and do this check for you. All that is required is that you fill out a quick questionnaire, including all of the names that you would like to have checked out. That way if your first choice is already taken you will have some other options all checked out that you can choose from.
