Insurance Rate Adjustment

After the September 11 terrorist attacks happened I heard that basically everything across the board was going to be affected. I was not all that entirely surprised then when my different insurance coverages changed a little. Recently though my car insurance went up again and I have no idea what that would have been caused by. Has there anything substantial gone on in the world, besides our recession that would make the change? Perhaps I should start shopping around and get a instant car insurance quote on line or two to see how other companies are doing in regards to insurance rates.
